A soft splice is achieved by looping the rope back on itself and then interweaving the strands to create a secure join. This is the strongest way of introducing an eye into a rope - for example to hang on garden posts or to suspend from a tree branch.
Our craftsmen are able to splice all of our 3 or 4 strand fibre ropes, although this service is not currently available with our braided or plaited ropes.
The cost of a splice takes into account the extra rope required. For example, if you order a 4m rope with a splice on one end, we use just over 4m of rope to allow us to splice a loop, but the end product remains 4m.
If you'd like to splice the rope yourself we suggest you practise on some old rope first - 10mm-16mm rope is nice to work with! Our instructional video shows how it is done.
