A D shackle for every rope and chain

We currently stock D-ring shackles in seven popular sizes: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, and 25mm. This measurement refers to the diameter of both the pin and body of the shackle.

Made from zinc-plated mild steel, all of our dee shackles are tough, durable, and weather-resistant. They benefit from a screw collared pin, which can be completely removed from the body of the shackle. And they have the same width, from the entrance through to the end of the body. As such, they are an ideal option for connecting to ropes and chains, rigging systems, and perpendicular lifting.

As well as their exceptional quality, our D shackles are available for a very competitive price – starting from just 54p per item – and they can all be delivered to your home address within a day or two.

FAQs

What can D shackles be used for?

Due to their distinctive D-shaped structure, dee shackles can only be used for perpendicular lifting and loading. But they can hold much greater weight than other shackles and, as a result of these properties, they are perfect for lifting when a straight in-line lift is required.

D shackles are also commonly used as a connecting link in rigging systems (e.g. boat rigging, industrial crane rigging), where they allow easy connection and disconnection of various ropes and chains.

Which size should I buy?

This will depend on the size of your rope or chain and how you intend to use the shackle.

Specific dimensions for each D shackle can be found in the product information tab. This includes the length of the pin and the shackle body in millimetres, as well as the diameter of the pin and body itself (denoted as ‘P’ in our diagram). The larger your rope – or the heavier the load you need to lift – the larger the diameter you will require.

Are D shackles easy to use?

Absolutely. In fact, it is one of their main advantages. D-ring shackles – particularly those with a screw collar – are a pretty straightforward piece of equipment. Just unscrew the pin by hand, position the body of the shackle where it needs to be, and screw the pin back into place.

However, it is important to keep in mind, using a D shackle incorrectly can sometimes cause damage (to both the shackle and its load) and pose a risk to your safety. So if you are using one for the first time, it may be worth doing a little research and making sure you know how to handle it correctly.

Further guidance on this can be found in our blog ‘How to use a D shackle correctly’.
