Decking rope at Daisy Bank Touring Caravan Park

Synthetic hemp – a great choice for the great outdoors

Love life outdoors?

These days, ‘camping’ doesn’t necessarily mean nights under canvas … there are plenty of campsites around the UK that also offer camping pods – just like those available at Daisy Bank Touring Caravan Park.

Set in the beautiful countryside of Montgomery, this adults-only campsite offers nights under either canvas or wood. Their cosy wooden pods are connected to the electricity, great for year-round use and equipped with some creature comforts.

Recently, they were kind enough to leave us a 5* review. Having purchased some 28mm synthetic hemp rope and antique brass end plates from our store, they created a lovely rope fence around the decking of each pod. Much to our delight, they were pleased with our products and impressed with the overall purchase process. So much so, they expect they’ll order with us again in the future!

We think you’ll agree, the results look fantastic…

…and that’s how they’ll stay for many, many years to come.

Why? Because synthetic hemp rope is – itself – a great lover of the great outdoors. In fact, it’s our no.1 recommendation for extended outdoor use. Here we take a closer look at why it’s so outdoorsy.

5 reasons why synthetic hemp is perfect for outdoor use

1.     Built to weather the storm

The UK’s forecast can be as changeable as it likes. Rain, hail, snow, frost, wet and windy storms, the occasional bit of sunshine. It doesn’t matter what’s in store. Specially designed to be robust and resilient – even in the harshest of conditions – it’s no match for synthetic hemp.

One of the hardiest general-use outdoor ropes available: It’s weatherproof. Impervious to rot, mould and mildew (no matter how soggy it gets in the inevitable downpours 🌧️). Resistant to UV rays and light degradation (no matter how many times the sun puts its hat on 😎). And capable of withstanding extreme temperatures 🥶.

2.     Hardy hemp

Don’t let its soft surface and natural hemp appearance fool you.

Synthetic hemp rope is extremely strong.

In fact, made from tough polypropylene fibres, it’s around 20% stronger than alternative outdoor ropes made from natural fibres (e.g. jute, sisal, manila, etc.). And will maintain its impressive strength and durability, even when it gets wet or is exposed to continuous harsh conditions.

3.     10 metres means 10 metres

Opt for synthetic hemp and there’s no need to worry about shrinkage.

All ropes can stretch a bit with load. However the fibres of our synthetic hemp rope simply don’t absorb water. Which means, when they come into contact with moisture (e.g. rain, dew, humidity, etc.), they don’t swell up or expand – and the rope won’t get any shorter. If you buy a 10m rope, it’ll always measure 10m – come hail, rain or shine.

No need to add any extra to your order or wait for the rope to shrink naturally in situ. Synthetic hemp provides a consistent length, even when it’s left outside for a very long time.

4.     Minimal maintenance

Synthetic hemp is a fuss-free rope; happy to enjoy its own company in the great outdoors.

It can be left in the garden long-term or subject to prolonged countryside conditions, and it will still look just as good and do the job just as well. It requires very little upkeep, successfully maintaining its integrity for many years – whilst showing no signs of deterioration.

To keep it in prime condition, just rinse it occasionally with water to remove dirt and debris.

5.     An ‘outdoorsy’ look

Deceptively authentic.

Synthetic hemp may be made from synthetic fibres, but it mimics the appearance of natural hemp. By combining its superior performance properties with a pleasing rustic aesthetic, it offers the best of both worlds – and blends in well in a natural garden or rural setting.
