As all good Scouts will tell you, this is Sisal - NOT String! I am a Cub Scout Leader, and we get through loads of sisal, we use it for all sorts of things, mini-pioneering projects, camp gadgets, tying bundles of stick together, the list is endless, and we even twist three strands together by hand to make rope! the kids love it! I bought this ball of Sisal to accompany a project that I first built in 1986! It is a kind of flight simulator, where a wooden aircraft slides down a sisal line to land on a runway, guided by a control column. I tried several different types of line, but the only thing that had the strength and lack of 'give' without snapping was good old Sisal. The line needs a refresh, the pulleys on the aircraft eventually wear down the Sisal, so I needed a new ball, and this was great value, with quick delivery. This will last a while, but in the meantime we will undoubtedly find a million and one uses for the rest!James Merry (6 Jun 2023, 19:57)
I am making simple stools and chairs in green Ash and this Sisal is perfect for the job, a tad hairy for bare bums but very hard wearing, weaves well and good value.....angus (30 Jan 2021, 20:47)
